  • New Grounds.com New Grounds is a great site to find all kinds of fun stuff. Mostly however I find that it is the best place to find original royalty free music made by people who love to share their creative works with the online masses.
  • High End 3D (now Creative Crash) This site is an incredible resource for 3D programmers and artists alike. There is a multitude of utilities, scripts, rigs, plugins, shaders and more. They have resources for Maya, 3DS Max, Renderman, ZBrush and others and it is used and contributed to by the best in the business.
  • Free Sounds Free sounds is a large collection of sound effects and audio clips, most of which are decent to high quailty. There are lots of sites like this one, but this one has yielded the best results.
  • 3D Buzz 3D buzz is a nice resource for aspring 3D artists and developers. It has both free and commercial tutorials videos on a number of products include Maya, Houdini, 3DS Max and even XNA.

3D and XNA Development

  • Microsoft Free Development Software Microsoft has some great free software for students. If you are interested in graphics or game programming, these apps are worth exceptionaly more than the time it takes to register and download. I've been using Microsoft Visual Studio and XNA Game Studio to create all my real-time graphics projects.
  • DirectX Software Development Kit Included with this SDK is some handy plug-ins for Maya and Photoshop for exporting to Direct X pipeline format files
  • Maya to .X exporter This is a great, simple script for exporting models from Maya to the XNA compatible .X format
